Assigning work through Book Creator

Assigning classwork other than writing through Book Creator

Are you using Book Creator in your classroom? Up until this point, I have just grazed the surface of all the amazing tools that Book Creator has to offer. Last year I allowed my students to use my library as a space to free write and create books for their own enjoyment. That was the extent of the Book Creator use in my classroom.
This year I had the opportunity to attend several sessions on Book Creator at the Georgia Educational Technology Conference. Through these sessions I learned about tools and tricks that made me LOVE Book Creator. Who knew Book Creator was so user friendly? My favorite feature that I learned during GAETC that Book Creator offers is the ability to push out a page you create to all of your student's books!

Pushing out assignments students

One of the cool aspects of this tool is that I can send a page to my whole class, or maybe to just one of my groups that needs extra practice on a skill. One of the biggest takeaways I had was that I  could use Book Creator for much more than just writing!

 Creating the resource

When you go to Book Creator and open a library, you should see all of your student's books. You should also see your book that you have made as an example. This is where you will make all the resources you will push out to your students.

Once you click into your book and create a new page, one of the great features is the ability to pull worksheets directly from Canva or Google Drive. When you click the "Plus" to add something to your page, you will simply click "More" and be given the option to insert a page from another resource. This directly puts your resource on the page in your book.

Sending the assignment to the students

After you have added the material you would like the students to work on, you are going to go back to your pages and click the three dots under the page you would like to push out to your students.

You have a few options here. You can either copy to the entire class by clicking on the library or you can click a select group of student names and push this page out to those students only.

Why this is great?

I use this resource as a way to collect data on student goals all in one location. I assign what the student needs to work on for that day and they know to go and work on that page. This would also be a great way for a teacher to create a notebook where the students could keep up with all their digital notes. This tool would be great for a number of areas in the classroom.

  1. I LOVE Book Creator! I cannot imagine ever teaching without it! I have not tried this idea yet, though. Thank you for this insight as this opens the door to outrageous possibilities!

  2. Game changer! I've been wanting to bring some of my Google slides onto the pages. Thank you!
HOWEVER, I need help with a couple of things I added Google Drive and Bitmoji, and can't seem to link MY accounts into it. Any ideas?

  3. This is a great idea in order to keep everything "together" when working on an unit, especially for students who need help with organizational skills. I thought about using this as a "Summer Packet" book to practice skills or pre-teach skills for the upcoming school year.

  5. I started trying this with my fluency interventions. I created a library for my student I am working with. We collaborate on the book. I add her paragraph to the next page, we do our fluency work, she records herself reading it. Hopefully by the end we can not just see data on her progress but also HEAR her progress too!
